  • Video for Marketing is the Way to GO in 2016!

Social platforms are increasingly moving towards the use of video content. Facebook caused controversy when it introduced auto-playing videos, but now, we all expect to see them in our streams.

Twitter has championed video with Vine, and we’re seeing more videos pop up in Pinterest. MeVee is the newest player in real time social streaming, up against Meerkat and Periscope.

ReelSEO found that 96 per cent of surveyed B2B marketing stakeholders are engaged in video content marketing. Cisco estimates that, by 2019, 80 per cent of the world’s internet traffic will be video. If you’re a marketing professional, you have two clear choices: get on board, or get left behind.

The impact of video on marketing

Content marketing is a dynamic landscape, and goes far beyond blogging and tweets. Video is way to generate leads, but it’s also a very useful way of creating two-way conversations, which is the essence of successful social campaigns.

In a survey of 350 B2B marketing professionals, 73 per cent said video has a positive impact on ROI and results. 41 per cent said they planned to increase their spend.

Respondents are using video for a range of approaches, including website and email marketing and brand awareness. Research suggests that you can boost email open rates by 19 per cent, simply by using the word ‘video’ in the subject line. ReelSEO also found that 75 per cent of respondents are optimizing video to boost SEO.

    The game changers

The figures that support the use of video are truly staggering. 78 per cent of people watch videos online every week, and more than 65 of viewers watch more than three quarters of a video.

To leverage these big audiences, you’ll need to identify and overcome barriers to adoption, and allocate the right budget and resource. You must devise ways to measure the ROI of your videos, whether they are used on social platforms, or deployed as ads.  And authenticity is key, so if you don’t have in-house video producers, you’ll need to recruit or outsource immediately.

    Changing landscapes

Cisco says that video consumption will increase over the next 4 years, driven by streaming services and the increasing number of fast internet connections. Soon, half the world’s population will have internet access, and each individual will have several connected devices that are video-ready.

The IAB says that half of our daily consumption of digital media takes place on smartphones and tablets, and Ericsson confirms that video traffic will grow 55% per year, for the next 5 years.

We’re also going to see 4K video improving engagement with super-crisp clarity and exceptional quality. The faster our connections are, the more we’ll be able to enjoy this new high standard in video.

    Video is here to stay

Mobile and social have evolved to a point where the use of video is everywhere. 81 per cent of businesses now feature video on their website.

To stay relevant and engage your audience, you’re going to have to increase your use of video, using it to underpin inbound marketing and boost communication with your audience. You simply can’t ignore video any longer.

2016 is an exciting year for marketing; all of the tools you need for video marketing are out there to be exploited. We’ll continue to update you throughout the year as the use of video marketing explodes.

  • Twitter Goes All Out to Expand its Ads Program

The micro-blogging site has been trailing behind the numero uno social networking site, when it comes to number of users as well as earning precious ad revenue. But 2015 seems to the right time for Twitter to close that gap and leapfrog its way to become a leading destination for advertisers to showcase their latest digital promotions.

Going forward, Twitter will be showing ads on third party sites and apps for all those people who see Tweets all over the web without actually using Twitter. This way Twitter can start making money from non-users as well. At the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the micro-blogging giant made its intent clear about selling ads within streams of Tweets within other publisher’s websites and apps. Initially Twitter is going to have advertisers like ESPN’s SportsCenter app and Flipboard.

Twitter has just announced that it is going to expand its ads mainly in the following two ways –

    • The ability to showcase tweets on a site or app that has the option to enable ads
    • Auto-play feature for video that helps Twitter to have ads like Facebook

Now this is a revolutionary step for the micro-blogging site which is the equivalent of AdSense for social ads. The proposition of ads placed within streams is going to benefit both the publishers and Twitter. The micro-blogging site has made rapid progress with hashtags, Graph Search and video. But this new feature with the ability to profit from showcasing Tweets is something that has got the advertising fraternity quite excited.

Soon Twitter users would be able to see videos being auto-played in their feeds. These videos will initially only play for 6 seconds with the options of playing the full video upon a click. Users, advertisers and media companies will have the option of uploading video directly on Twitter for user consumption. Every time you view a video you will get a list of videos that are related so that you can consume more than one video at a time.

The revenue sharing model with the publishers looks quite promising and advertising with Twitter will never be the same again. The video ads on the other hand will help Twitter to gain back precious views from competing services like Facebook and YouTube.

  • LinkedIn Powers up Search and Google Launches Premium Programmatic Video Marketplace

LinkedIn updates and Google launches Apps Marketplace

    LinkedIn

LinkedIn’s burgeoning user base – more than 300 million registered users – has made its search methodology insufficient. LinkedIn’s current search feature that allowed people to search for jobs, groups and other criteria was not catering to its user base.

As a solution, a new search feature, Galene, was developed by LinkedIn.

With Galene’s introduction, search will be twice as fast. New aspects with the updated search structure include instant results and suggestions that offer clues when users type in. For example, if you type ‘C++’, LinkedIn will ask you if you are looking for jobs in C++ programming.

This feature will be rolled out to all users over the next few months.

    Google

Google is unveiling its programmatic video marketplace, Google Partner Select, with a group of select partners, whose names are yet to be revealed.

Google Partner Select will connect premium publishers and brands through direct buying. According to Neal Mohan, Google’s VP of display and video advertising products, “This new premium programmatic marketplace will connect a select set of publishers investing in top-quality video with the brands that want to buy against it.”

Neal also said that this venture will help brands and publishers in leveraging programmatic video buying. Brands want to take advantage of premium video content but are having trouble finding high quality videos. On the other hand, publishers want to exercise control over programmatic.

Google Partner Select will build a bridge over these troubled waters, meeting the needs of both brands and publishers by bringing together “the best of brand with the best of programmatic.”

What do these changes mean for marketers?

Better and quicker LinkedIn search can mean easier content searches for users, especially with the recent boost for LinkedIn Influencers. If content is easy to find, the reader will engage more, which can lead to better conversion rates. This will also help you expand your reach by bringing relevant groups and forums closer to you.

Google Partner Select will close the gap between brands and publishers in programmatic video buying. Brands can get access to high quality videos while publishers will be getting some control over the process.
